Bioethics Research Showcase
Mid-April Annually – All Majors, Bioethics Focus
The Bioethics Research Showcase is a juried competition and exhibition of undergraduate student work on ethical themes in health, the environment, and emerging technologies. Work is welcome in any topic of bioethics. Submission categories range from journalism to performance art to philosophical essays. Students may revise and submit work they developed for a class, contribute part of an honors thesis or capstone project, or submit an art work or piece of writing they created on their own. Multiply-authored works are acceptable and students may submit more than one item for consideration even within the same category.
Gender+ Justice Research Colloquium
April Annually
The Gender+ Justice Research Colloquium is an annual interdisciplinary conference presenting intersectional works related to the issues of gender, race, and economic justice. Graduate students and faculty members of Georgetown are eligible to submit proposals.
Undergraduate Research Conference
Late April Annually
The Georgetown University Undergraduate Research Conference, founded within the Department of Human Science at the School of Nursing & Health Studies, is an opportunity for undergraduate students to present their research efforts.
The conference focuses on medical and health-related research, inviting applicants from all health- and science-related disciplines. Participation is open to any undergraduate student. All undergraduate participants present posters during a poster viewing session.
From the pool of submitted posters, the Student Planning Committee selects some students, in advance, to also deliver oral presentations. The 2021 URC is scheduled for April 22, 2021. For more information on abstract/poster submission, visit the URC Facebook page.
Carroll Round
April Annually – All Majors, Economics Focus
The Carroll Round is an annual international economics conference at Georgetown University that provides a unique forum for research and discussion among the world’s top undergraduates. The goal of the Carroll Round is to foster the exchange of ideas among leading undergraduate international economics and political economy students by encouraging and supporting the pursuit of scholarly innovation in the field.
Colloquium on Undergraduate Research in the Social Sciences & Humanities
Early April Annually – All Majors
Acceptable submissions for the Colloquium on Undergraduate Research are wide-ranging in format: papers, posters, performances, videos, pieces of art, and any other form of presentation which falls broadly within the fields of humanities and social sciences. Submissions outside the social sciences and humanities, and not as compatible with the Colloquium, may also be considered for other existing research presentation opportunities.
Global Social Justice Summer Research Symposium
September Annually – All Majors, Alumni
The Center for Social Justice hosts an annual symposium to feature summer social justice-based research from undergraduate fellows and recent alumni.
MSB Undergraduate Research Symposium
October Annually – MSB Students
MSB undergraduate research fellows (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program) present their research findings at the Symposium each October. Fellows work with faculty members to investigate various business topics, with a diverse range of subjects such as patterns in global food waste, the future of Brexit, the impact of Russian import substitution, and the benefits of managed futures.
Walsh Exchange
Late January Annually – International Relations-related Majors
Acceptable submissions for the Walsh Exchange are papers related to international relations that are between 20 and 50 pages and include a short video (1-2 minutes) submission that briefly summarizes the research and its relevance to international relations. Papers are blind-reviewed for the conference but are not need-blind for international submissions. The conference covers all travel costs for domestic attendees and makes a “good-faith effort” to cover costs for international attendees.
WGST Undergraduate Conference on Feminism
Mid April Annually – All Majors
All undergraduate students who have taken or are currently taking a Women’s and Gender Studies course are encouraged to submit. Presentations are on topics related to women’s and gender studies that employ feminist theoretical approaches. Submitted proposals can also be papers that are near completion. If accepted into the conference, students attend a workshop on academic conference presentations in spring. Papers submitted to the conference are automatically entered into the Women’s and Gender Studies writing prize competition.
