The Agnes and Margaret Macmillan-St. Andrew’s Society Scholarship

The Saint Andrew’s Society of the State of New York has provided over 200 scholarships to promote cultural interchange and goodwill between Scotland and the United States since 1956.

The Society awards five scholarships annually, each valued at $35,000 USD, to support graduate study for one year – three for US students to study in Scotland and two for Scottish students to study in the United States – all of whom are invited to study at a university in their respective areas of study to continue their education. The scholarships are granted for tuition, maintenance and travel. The candidates are of the highest caliber and have varying fields of interest.

Candidates should possess the qualifications which will enable them to be good ambassadors for the United States while in Scotland. Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously studied in the United Kingdom. The basis for selection includes:

Application Process

The Saint Andrew’s Society Scholarship requires institutional nomination. For consideration, the following materials should be sent by November 1st.

Saint Andrew’s Society will select six finalists to attend an interview luncheon in New York City during February or early March. Following this luncheon, three of these finalists will be awarded a scholarship for graduate study in Scotland.
